THE new wool award which celebrates influential contributors to Australia’s $3 billion wool industry has been inundated with “exceptional” applicants.

The inaugural Australian Wool Industry Medal will be presented during the Australian Wool Industries Secretariat’s Wool Week gala.

Federation of Australian Wool Organisations secretary Bianca Heaney said the quality and volume of applicants had been exceptional, representing members from every sector of the industry.

“We’ve had industry leaders and quiet achievers nominated, all people who have contributed extensively and substantially to the wool industry,” Ms Heaney said.

“Some nominations have made changes to systems and the way the wool industry operates, and others have mentored and changed the views of how people see the wool industry. This award recognises individuals who have provided a sustained and influential contribution – attendees of Wool Week will be blown away by the diversity of nominations.”
